Ms. Brill is also an avid chamber musician. She has performed throughout Europe, Israel, Australia and the USA with such leading artists as Sabine Meyer, the Borromeo and the Jerusalem String Quartets, the Esprit Trio, Trio di Clarone and the Tel Aviv Trio.
She also performs with pianist Jonathan Aner as a member of the Brillaner Duo, playing its Carnegie Hall Debut in January 2008. The Duo won the Possehl Competition in Germany as well as the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and the Ronen Foundation grants, and have taken part in the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Eklisia Festival (Turkey), the Bangalow Festival (Australia), and the International Lübeck Chamber Music Festival. Recently they served on the faculty at the Yellow Barn Festival’s Young Artists Program (USA), at the Mahler Academy in Ferrara (Italy), and coached masterclasses in different academies in Australia (including at the Australian National Academy of Music), Canada and Israel. Celebrating its Debut-Concert at the Berliner Philharmonie, the duo released its first CD in June 2005 which has been described as a “fascinating mixture of two dazzling artists” (Das Ensemble Magazine). The Brillaner Duo has been broadcast on numerous radio stations, including WQXR in New York, WGBH, and many prominent radio stations in Europe (SWR, MDR) and in Israel.
Committed to the creation and performance of new music, Ms. Brill has collaborated with several leading contemporary musicians including Diethelm Jonas and Zsolt Nagy. She has premiered numerous pieces of young composers and expanded the repertoire of the clarinet through her own transcriptions of existing music (such as Mozart and Janacek violin sonatas). Those transcriptions have won the praise of leading academics and performers.
After studying in Israel with Mr. Yitzhak Katzap and at the outstanding young musicians' program of the Jerusalem Music Centre, Ms. Brill continued her studies at the Musikhochschule Lübeck in Germany and at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Working with world-renowned mentors such as Sabine Meyer and Richard Stoltzman, “Shirley Brill is on a fast track to making an international name for herself” (Prenzlauer Zeitung, Germany).
